A train wreck occurred on Edison Highway in Bakersfield on Monday morning. The accident happened at approximately 8:40 a.m. when a big rig ignored crossing lights warning of an oncoming train and failed to cross the tracks in time. The driver of the big rig, 36-year-old Dalila Solorio, managed to jump from the cab before the big rig was hit. The truck was torn in pieces on one side of the tracks. Solorio was not injured.
The train was carrying a load of hazardous materials, but there was no spill or fire. The accident caused significant damage to the tracks and the big rig, and Edison Highway was closed for several hours while crews worked to clear the scene.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
