The Iron Sheik, one of the most iconic wrestlers of all time, has announced his retirement. The 79-year-old Iranian-American wrestler made the announcement on his Twitter account on Saturday. "I am sad to announce that I am retiring from professional wrestling," Sheik wrote. "I have had a long and successful career, and I am grateful for all of the support I have received from my fans over the years. I will miss competing in the ring, but I am looking forward to spending more time with my family and friends." Sheik began his professional wrestling career in 1968. He quickly rose to fame in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), where he feuded with some of the biggest names in the business, including Hulk Hogan, Bob Backlund, and Sgt. Slaughter. Sheik won the WWF World Heavyweight Championship in 1983, and he also won the WWF Tag Team Championship with Nikolai Volkoff. Sheik retired from professional wrestling in 1994, but he continued to make appearances in the WWE until 2010. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005.
