Quincy Promes to Stand Trial for Attempted Murder | #QuincyPromes #AttemptedMurder #DrugTrafficking

Dutch footballer Quincy Promes will stand trial for attempted murder and drug trafficking, Dutch prosecutors announced on Tuesday.

Promes, 31, is accused of stabbing his cousin in the knee during a fight in July 2020. The victim was hospitalized with serious injuries, but survived.

Promes was initially released without charge, but prosecutors reopened the case in November 2021 after receiving new evidence.

Promes is also accused of smuggling 1,360 kilograms of cocaine into the Netherlands in two shipments in 2020.

Promes has denied all charges. His trial is scheduled to begin on September 6.

Promes is a former Netherlands international who has played for clubs including Twente, Sevilla, and Ajax. He is currently playing for Spartak Moscow.

The charges against Promes are serious and could result in a lengthy prison sentence. If convicted, he could also face deportation from the Netherlands.

Promes's case is a reminder of the dark side of professional football. Despite the fame and fortune that comes with playing at the highest level, footballers are still human beings who are capable of committing serious crimes.
