Arsenal have completed the signing of Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City on a five-year deal. The 25-year-old, who has been capped 50 times by Brazil, will cost the Gunners an initial fee of £45 million, with a further £10 million in add-ons.
Jesus is Mikel Arteta's first major signing of the summer transfer window, and the Spaniard is confident that the striker will be a key player in his plans for the future.
"I'm delighted that we've been able to complete the signing of Gabriel," said Arteta. "He's a player I've admired for a long time, and I'm excited to be working with him. He's a versatile attacker with a lot of experience, and I'm confident he will be a great addition to our squad."
Jesus has scored 95 goals in 236 appearances for Manchester City since joining the club from Palmeiras in 2017. He won four Premier League titles, four League Cups, and the FA Cup with City.
Jesus is expected to compete with Eddie Nketiah for a starting spot up front at Arsenal next season. Nketiah signed a new long-term contract with the club earlier this month.
Arsenal finished fifth in the Premier League last season, and will be hoping to challenge for a top-four finish in 2022/23. They will also be competing in the Europa League, having failed to qualify for the Champions League.
Jesus' arrival is a major boost for Arsenal, and he is sure to add goals and creativity to the team. He is also a versatile player who can play in a number of positions, which will give Arteta more options in attack.
Arsenal fans will be hoping that Jesus can help them to achieve success in the coming season.
